PATHANAMTHITTA: Police are gearing up to toughen security measures in Sabarimala when just three days (November 16) are left for the start of Mandalam season.

In preparation for this, the police is planning to make pass compulsory for not only the vehicles heading towards Sabarimala but also for devotees.

For those who go by walking through the forest path, carrying their ID card will be mandatory. Police will issue a pass after verifying their identity. While the devotees walk through the forest path, they will have to exhibit the pass.

During Mandlam season, the police anticipate a rush of devotees through the forest route. Moreover, they believe that strict regulations is something unavoidable in the wake of the tension existing in Sabarimala over women’s entry.

On the basis of above assumptions, a new action plan has been prepared under directions of the DGP and IG Manoj Abraham.
More officers under IG rank will be there in Sabarimala this time. The number of police will be more than 6000. Gun-bearing battalions from other states may also be called in from other states.

However, final decision on this will be taken after the Supreme Court on Tuesday takes a call on review petitions.
