KOZHIKODE: The government has terminated temporary staff who were actively involved in service during the Nipah virus outbreak. The hospital officials have informed 42 staff members that their contract has ended and they need not come for duty from Thursday.
Health Minister K K Shailaja had clarified that their jobs will not be lost and they will be appointed as permanent employees. A list was prepared for this and was sent to the government approval through the medical college principal. The employees have been terminated in this situation.
Employees including cleaning staff, nursing assistants and nurses are becoming unemployed through this action. They have not yet been awarded with certificates for their service during Nipah outbreak. The permanent employees have been getting increment and promotion while the temporary staff members become unemployed.
