THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DySP Harikumar's friend Binu said that he had believed Harikumar's words that he will surrender initially and then Binu can surrender later. Harikumar told this to Binu while they separated after nine-days of hiding. Binu and driver Ramesh had surrendered before the investigation team on Tuesday night and they were interrogated by the police.
When Sanal Kumar was critical after he was hit by a moving car, Harikumar had called rural SP Ashok Kumar and told SP that he is planning to hide. Binu was told to accompany him for driving and other help required. Harikumar had fled the city with enough money and they travelled by car to Madhura and later to Dharmasthal via Mysore. However, Harikumar was pressurised when he came to know that crime branch IG was in charge of the case. Harikumar later showed his interest to surrender following the arrests of lodge owner in Thripparappu and Binu's son. Harikumar was also physically exhausted since he was a diabates patient.
Harikumar was also mentally disturbed because of the thoughts on remand. He had always shared about this to Binu. However, Binu said that he had no clue that Harikumar would commit suicide. They returned to Kerala on Monday morning from Mangalore. They were planning to surrender before the crime branch officers. They reached Kallambalam at 10 pm via Thenkasi and Thenmala. Harikumar left them to his house in Kallambalam while Binu and Ramesh stayed at a friend's house. They heard about Harikumar's suicide while they were planning to surrender. They reached crime branch SP office at night and their statements are being cross checked. They will be presented in the court in the evening.
