THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Feminist Trupti Desai is set to visit the Sabarimala temple on November 17 during the Mandala-Marakavilau season. This will be like adding fuel to the fire as tension and protests against young women's entry prevails in Kerala.
She is the founder of Bhumata Brigade, an organisation that has spearheaded a successful campaign for women's right to worship in temples in North India. Desai wrote to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the state DGP, requesting for police protection.
Interestingly, she has sought security from the time she lands in the airport and returns to the airport after darshan. She has even asked for accommodation in hotels. When the government is not liable to meet these demands by expending tax-payers' money, it may take an apt decision only after thinking twice or thrice.
The two-month long annual 'Mandala Makkaravillakku' season begins from November 17. Desai (33) will have in her entourage Maneesha Rahul (42), Meenakshi Shinde (46), Swathi (44), Savitha (29), Sangeetha (42) and Lekshmi (43).
Already Desai and his team have been receiving threats, with some warning them of dire consequences if they enter Kerala, while others threatening to commit suicide if they dare climb the holly hillock.
From the airport, she plans to go to Kottayam, where she will stay and start her trip to Sabarimala at 5 in the morning. She would have darshan at 7 in the morning.
If Desai gets attacked, the government will have to face the blame and this will instill more vigour and confidence among the protestors including political parties. Anyways, Trupti Desai has become a big head-ache for the government.
