KOCHI: Hundreds of people including BJP leaders may be arrested soon for blocking Bhumatha Brigade leader Trupti Desai and her team for hours at Kochi Nedumbassery airport, where she had arrived with the intention to visit Sabarimala temple, according to sources in the police.

Police are currently examining the CCTV visuals and other videos. From the visuals, the police will codify the details of protestors, after which arrests would be carried out.

The police had filed a case against 250 identifiable persons on that day itself. Later they decided to file cases against 500 persons after examining the video of the protest. The police plans to summon these persons and record the arrest.

The BJP has alleged that the police have been acting under political pressure even though the airport authorities have not made any complaint against the protesters.

Trupti Desai had arrived at airport at 4:30 am on Friday and the protesters continued blockade till she boarded her return flight at 9:30 pm. The protesters have been charged for offences such as disrupting the functioning of the airport and trying to create problems in the special security zone.

Rural district police chief Rahul R Nair has also confirmed the possibility of arrests.
