SYDNEY: Australia defeated India in the first T20 international at Brisbane on Wednesday in a last-over thriller match.

After today's victory, Australia now lead the 3-match T20 series 1-0.

India won the toss and decided to field first, Australia suffered an early setback after the fall of D Arcy Short but climbed back with Glenn Maxwell taking the charge from the front after Chris Lynn departed, contributing valuable 37 runs in just 20 balls. Maxwell's inning included a hat-trick of sixes. Stoinis too played a quick knock, adding 33 runs in just 19 balls. Before Maxwell, Australia skipper Aaron Finch too smashed quick 27 runs in 24 balls including three boundaries.

A light drizzle intervened when Australia's inning was in the 17th over after which the match was reduced to 17-overs a side.

Australia made 158/4 in their 17 overs and the target for India was revised to 174 runs.

India start was also marred by an early setback as Rohit Sharma departed scoring just 7 runs, Lokesh Rahul was sent on number three but he could not make much of the opportunity, giving away his wicket by getting stumped by Carey on 13 runs.
