KANNUR: With the publication of 3G notification of the land acquired for NH bypass at Keezhattur, Vayalkilis (protesters) have lost all their expectations.

It was most unexpectedly that protesters saw the notification in newspapers on Tuesday. All leaders stood aghast at this intimation. In the notification issued by National Highway authority, it is also said that owners of acquired land should be present before authorities concerned with all their land documents.

According to the notification, it is almost certain that there will not be any change in the alignment of the road, fixed earlier. 45 metre wide four lane road will come up through the middle of 90 metre wide Keezhattur paddy field.

According to estimates, about 10 lakh tonne sand will be needed to fill the paddy field. The CPM had first agitated against the reclamation of the paddy field but later the locals united under the name Vayalkilis and started protest. The strike attracted public attention after the protest led by the CPM turned against the LDF government.

Later, environment organisations and political parties, expect the CPM, came out to support the Vayalkilis. Vayalkilis were under the belief that the BJP would persuade the Central government to change the alignment of the bypass.

A team including strike leader Suresh Keezhattur and Nambradathu Janaki were sent to New Delhi to bring the issue to the notice of the Centre and form an expert committee to look into it. It was BJP that made this Delhi meeting possible. But now, the notification seems to have fructified Vayalkilis’ agitations.

Vayalkilis now say that first, the CPM deceived people and later BJP dropped them in the midway. Protest leader Suresh Keezhattur has said that the BJP and CPM were birds of the same feather.
