THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the reconstruction of flood-battered Kerala will be made free of red-tapism and transparent. The reconstruction work will be done, giving importance to environmental protection and so as to pre-empt future mishaps due to calamities.

New concepts will be accepted through Rebuild Kerala Initiative. Instructions and advice will be accepted from Malayali experts from outside Kerala in this regard. Seminars will be held from different sectors for formulation of ideas. There will also be participation of media in this, according to the chief minister.

"In total, Rs 31000 crore will be needed for the reconstruction. Out of Rs 2683.18 crore received through the Flood relief fund, Rs 1357.78 has been used for reconstructing destroyed houses. From the Centre, Kerala got Rs 600 crore. But we had to give Centre Rs 290.67 crore towards the expense of flight fare and supply of Ration items. The total flood relief fund available will not be sufficient to give away flood compensations. The importance is being given to reconstruction of homes, rebuilding the livelihood and reconstruction of roads of local self-government bodies,” he said.
