Director Lijo Jose Pellissery and actor Chemban Vinod who won the Siver Peacock award during the just concluded 49th international film festival have given a new face to Malayalam cinema, which is into its ninetieth year.
The honour also shows that the future of Malayalam cinema is safe in the hand of talented new generation.
Ee.Ma.Yau is a 2018 satire film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film brought honour to both director and Chempan Vinod, the actor in it.
This is a time when a bunch of youngsters have walked into Malayalam cinema and are making great performances.
Among them Lijo is in the forefront. All his six films, made over the past 10 years, were of different genres. His grit for experimentation has been an achievement for Malayalam cinema
Lijo’s style is to make films that would attract all sections of audience and that which create excitement in him.
All experiments may not be successful. Best artistic creations have been the ones that have been resurrected from failed experiments.
If we take the case of actors, most of the gifted actors and actresses are from Malayalam. Chempam Vinod belong to that class of blessed actors; he is the one who leaves his imprint on all the characters he does.
.He is also a script writer; he was the one who scripted Angamaly Diaries. Lijo and Chempan are thick friends. Chempan who turned an actor through Lijo’s first film is now an inseparable part of Malayalam cinema.
“Cinema is a great art. It will be travelling forward from its old frame. Our Malayalam film is evolving. Cinema conceives the values and dreams of changing times.
It is making a forward leap from its slow-paced past to its fast-paced modern times.”
