KASARAGOD: Man who tried to catch porcupine inside a cave died of suffocation. It took 20 hours and a combined efforts of Firemen and mine workers to recover the body of Narayana Nayik aka Ramesh (35). Dead bodies of two fully grown porcupines and a brain dead porcupine was also found.
It was on Thursday night that a five man team went on to catch porcupine. Ramesh was the first to enter the cave, while others followed. Mid-way through the cave, one person felt suffocation and rushed out of the cave and later informed Police and Fire & Rescue force. The rescue force was able to rescue two people. The rescue force had to seek the help of mine workers in order to get to Ramesh.
Ramesh’s body was found 50 metres inside the cave stranded under clay and dirt. The body has been sent for autopsy at Kasaragod General Hospital mortuary.
Ramesh is the son of Subba Nayak and Lalitha. He was a daily wage labourer.
