PATHANAMTHITTA: The dip in pilgrim inflow at Sabarimala has also affected the hundi collection and the sale of "appam" and "arvana", the prasadams, sources said. Only Rs 66 lakh worth appam was sold within two days. Last year, the temple had received Rs 3.41 Cr. through the sales of appam. The temple received only Rs 6.75 Cr. through the sale of aravana and only Rs 7.75 Cr. as the hundi collection.
The sales at Sabarimala was also affected when the temple got opened for monthly poojas of Thulam. It has been hinted that many pilgrims chose to stay away from the temple following the protests and police action. There was a widespread campaign for not to donate money to any temples under devaswom board. Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran had come forward with actual data about the fund.
