THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NSS has stayed away from the meeting of progressive social organisations chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the capital on Saturday.

The organisation had opposed the entry of women between the age of 10 and 50 to Sabarimala from the very beginning.

The NSS had appeared as an opposing party in the case. It has filed a review petition requesting the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision on September 28 allowing women, irrespective of their age, to worship at the temple.

With the boycott, the government move for reconciliation with the NSS has failed. NSS has said there is no relevance for the consensus since they are waiting for the hearing of the petition they had moved against young women’s entry in Sabarimala.
Though the CPM leadership had sent messengers to Perunna to invite him to the meeting, he stuck to the stand to lift Section 144 order from Sabarimala.

The LDF has strained its relationship with the NSS over Sabarimala issue, even as it was expecting the latter’s corporation in the Lok Sabha election like the one it got during Chengannur by-election.

The NSS also expressed its resentment over the arrest of K P Sasikala and K Suendran.
