PATHANAMTHITTA:The police arrested five persons who allegedly abducted a Plus Two student from his home at Manjinikkara, near here, on Friday night.

The arrested persons are Karnataka Chikkamangalore Ranganahalli natives Avinash (25), Premadas (31), Chandrasekhar (24), Haneefa (33) and Alex John (35).

Avinash is the student's mother Shailaja's sister's son.

The student is under treatment in Pathanamthitta general hospital.

The police said son of Santhosh and Shailaja couple, was abducted from his home around 11.30 p.m. on Friday.

He was reportedly assaulted and dragged into a car by the gang, led by his cousin Abhilash. The parents were not at home.-

His grandmother was also attacked by the assailants and her ornaments too were stolen. The abductors reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh for releasing Sachin.

The gang left in two cars one with Karnataka registration and the other with Kerala registration. The second car was recovered from Enathu

The Perumbavoor police arrested the gang by 3 a.m. on Saturday by tracing their mobile location. Avinash is learnt to have frequented the student's house , demanding money, from his father but in vain. He is an auto driver settled in Mysore.

All the five accused were handed over to the Pathanamthitta police. The accused were brought to Manjinikkara and evdience were collected.
