KOCHI: BJP State general Secretary Shobha Surendran on Monday moved a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Kerala high court, alleging that atrocities of police are increasing and the government was not following the Supreme Court order that directs action against investigation officials in cases in which the court had acquitted the accused.
The petition will be considered on Tuesday.
“In Sabarimala, a Union Minister and the high court judge were humiliated. Ordinary people who were Ayyappa devotees and innocent were arrested and put behind the bars.
In Kishan Bai case, the Supreme Court had on January 7, 2014 delivered the order that action should be taken against investigating officers if the accused in corresponding cases are acquitted. This is not implemented in Kerala.
5000 Ayyappa devotees were arrested. Thousands of fake cases were filed against devotees. BJP leader Surendran was arrested on his way to Sabarimala darshan. More than a dozen non-bailable cases were deliberately framed.
On the basis of 2014 SC order, the police may be asked to submit the details of investigation officers who were responsible for falsely implicating people. Action may also be recommended against them,” Shobha requested in the petition.
The interim demand is to instruct the police to submit the case details of Ayyappa devotees arrested since September 29.
Meanwhile, the court decided to consider after two weeks the petition filed by Moovattupuzha native Prem Chand, seeking the government to appoint Devaswom Ombudsman to inquire into alleged police excesses in Sabarimala.
