BULANDSHAHR : A police inspector and a villager died following mob violence over an alleged case of cow slaughter in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning. The incident took place approximately 150 kms from Lucknow.


The deceased police officer, Subodh Kumar Singh, was posted at the Syana Kotwali in Bulandshahr. He died after sustaining fatal head injuries following the mob violence. A protester, Sumit Kumar, was injured in firing and was rushed to a hospital in Meerut where he succumbed to his injuries. Several policemen and protesters were also injured. In addition, some police vans and other private vehicles were torched by the angry protesters.

According to the police, certain right wing groups along with locals protesting against the cow slaughter went on a rampage and attacked the Chingrawati police outpost.

After the incident, there were protests in different parts of the state.

There was a three day prayer meeting of Muslims in Bulandshahr. More than 2 lakh people were part of the meet.
