KOCHI: The High Court on Friday granted bail to K Surendran, who was arrested for allegedly conspiring to attack 52-year old woman Lalilatha and her relative Mridul at Sannidhanam, mistaking her to be below 50 years of age.
First accused Sooraj was arrested on November 7.
Surendran was asked to pay Rs 2 lakh bond and two persons equivalent to that amount as surety. He was asked to be present himself before the investigation officers between 10 am and 1 pm on the first Monday of every month. This should continue for three months. He can forgo this condition if the charge sheet is submitted within this period.
Other conditions
1) Don’t enter Pathanamthitta district other than for appearing in courts
2) Court’s prior permission should be taken to go Pathanamthitta only in case of emergency
3) Passport should be submitted to the court
4) Don’t indulge in similar crimes
5) Don’t influence witnesses or threaten them
The court, meanwhile, criticised Surendran, saying that his argument that he had no role in the protest that “formed on its own” in Sabarimala could not be accepted. “It is unfortunate that a person who is holding a respectable position in a political party is indulging anti-constitutional activities for political gain,” the court observed, adding that it was considering the fact that Surendran had been in custody since November 17 through his arrest was recorded only on November 23.
