THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following Opposition din in the State Assembly over Sabarimala issue on Monday, the session was adjourned for the day. Opposition marched to the well of the Assembly house, demanding withdrawal of Prohibitory orders in Sabarimala. They also crowded around the Speaker’s dais, holding placards and banners.
Though the Speaker asked the Opposition not to interrupt Question Hour session and offered to discuss the matter in Zero hour, the noise became louder, after which the Question and Answer Session was cancelled.
The Assembly session was adjourned following this. MLAs P C George and O Rajagopal also walked out of the Assembly in protest against no action being taken by the government to end indefinite fast of BJP leader A N Radhakrishnan.
Before the Assembly session began, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala held a meeting with Speaker Sreeramakrishnan. They demanded that the government intervene to end the strike of opposition MLAs and withdraw prohibitory orders from Sabarimala.
The opposition decided to protest after the Speaker didn’t give any assurance on this.
