NEW DELHI: Reserve Bank Governor Urjit Patel (RBI) has stepped down from his post citing personal reasons. Urjit Ravindra Patel (born 1963) is an Indian economist, who served as 24th Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since September 2016. Previously, as an RBI deputy governor, he looked after monetary policy, economic policy research, statistics and information management, deposit insurance, communication and Right to Information. Appointed by the NDA government, Patel succeeded Raghuram Rajan as RBI governor on 4 September 2016.
"On account of personal reasons, I have decided to step down from my current position effective immediately", said Urjit Patel in an official statement.
