THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The secretariat march held by BJP-Yuva Morcha activists seeking government’s involvement to end A N Radhakrishnan’s hunger strike ended in a clash. Five policemen including cantonment station SI and women activists were injured in stone pelting. Police used water pistol and tear gas at the activists.

Cantonment SI Shafi, policemen Aaromal, Prasanth, Sreeraj, Manmohan, Vishnu, Mahila Morcha Kazhakkoottam unit president Sreevidya, BJP district secretary and councellor R C Beena, Mahila Morcha district president Valiyasala Bindu, BJP district vice president Sudharma, Mahila Morcha activists Arya Anil, Jaya Rajeev, Ajitha, Sreelatha, BJP Nemom assembly vice president Krishnakumar, Yuva Morcha activists Rajaji Nagar Mahesh and Sudarshan were injured. They are currently under treatment in a private hospital.

The activists tried to trespass to the secretariat through the nort gate at 11:30 am on Monday. They threw stones and foot wears from behind when the police blocked their attempt to throw the barricades. When the police used water pistol at them, they threw stones back at police. Police then used tear gas and the protesters ran back to the ‘satyagraha’ stage.

BJP state general secretary Sobha Surendran and district president Suresh reached there and settled the issue. Protesters destroyed police helmet and shield by throwing them on to the road. BJP district president Suresh asked the protesters to block the road. The issue was finally settled after a hartal was called by the protesters.
