NEW DELHI: The government has appointed former financial secretary Shaktikanta Das as the new Reserve Bank Governor (RBI) governor. The decision was taken following the resignation of Urjit Patel. The government issued the appointment order on Tuesday evening. He has been appointed for the next three years.
Shaktikanta Das is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. During his career as an IAS officer, he served in various capacities for Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, including as Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India, Fertilizers Secretary of India.
He is member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India, and India's Sherpa to G20.
