KOCHI: In an affidavit given by the government to the high court, it says that the police had to be deployed in Sabarimala after community organisations and anti-social elements created law and order problem there to find a place in politics. There is no similarity between Piravom case and Sabarimala case. In the affidavit, Sabarimala’s name is not mentioned. It is only said that Sabarimala issue is just an issue of general public.
“In Piravom, it is Civil row between Orthodox and Jacobites under Malankara diocese but in Sabarimala, public property was destroyed and protestors attacked devotees, media persons. They tried to trigger communal sentiments and created scare across the State.”
The high court had earlier criticised the government for not implementing the Supreme court order in Piravom case. The government’s affidavit is in response to this.
“In the affidavit given by the Home Department additional secretary, it is also mentioned that Piravom church case is not like other issues currently going on in society. “If the church issue in not resolved through reconciliation, it will be spread to other churches under Malankara diocese.”
Another bench of the high court also had said that there was no similarity between Sabarimala case and Piravom church case.
