Devotees can visit Sabarimala in peace now as the shrine is free of disarray seen during the first few days of the festive days. The protests led by BJP have shifted from Sabarimala to Secretariat. After the appointment of three men supervision committee by High Court, Mandala Makaravilakku season is going on smoothly. The Prohibitory orders only exist at places like Nilakkal, as precaution. The pilgrims certify that they face no problems despite the existence of Prohibitory orders. Even the High Court finds no problem with the current situation. But the opposition party is continuously creating problems inside the Assembly hall demanding withdrawal of Prohibitory orders. The Legislative assembly had to stall it’s proceedings for 10 continuous days because of this. The leaders of every party assemble daily at the hall. But once the Speaker start Legislative Assembly procedures, opposition will move to front and stall proceedings. The opposition leaders need to think calmly about what they have achieved with style of protest. Even if the Assembly proceedings are stalled, these leaders might be receiving all the allowances and daily benefits. But have they spared a thought towards the money spend for these daily Assembly meetings? It’s the tax of the citizens that’s used here. Do anyone of these legislators care about money going to waste like this? All these protests are pointless. There are no difficulties for the pilgrims at Sabarimala despite all these minimal restrictions. As the footfalls are less compared to past years, the devotees can perform the ‘Darshan’ smoothly. There are no justifications in sabotaging Assembly elections regarding such an issue. Several bills that came into consideration of the Assembly were either passed without the knowledge of these legislators or passed on to the concerned authority. The Q&A session went in vain without discussing any public issues. To simply put this, nobody gained anything from these Assembly sessions. According to the calendar, the Assembly meetings will come to an end today. Have these legislators, who are the representatives of people, raised their voice to bring forth actual problems of people? Also it’s not the right tendency to stop Assembly proceedings once the opposition start protesting. Each and every one is responsible to uphold the integrity of Legislative Assembly. The valuable time of the Assembly shouldn’t be wasted for petty politics.
The three legislators observing hunger strike at the Assembly Hall entrance are means to increase the intensity of protests from opposition. Hunger strike won’t stop until Prohibitory orders are withdrawn, says opposition leaders. But the government is least concerned about these protests. Protests should be stopped at an appropriate time. This protest lacks that sense.
