THIRUVAANTHAPURAM: The UDF MLAs have called off the fast being held in front of the Assembly complex, seeking to end police restriction in Sabarimala. UDF MLAs V S Sivakumar, Parakkal Abdullah and Dr N Jayaraj had been fasting for the past 11 days.
The strike was ended after the MLAs interrupted Assembly proceedings in the morning and performed floral tribute to Gandhi statue. Later Ramesh Chennithala told the media that the Congress will continue their strike for the cause of Sabarimala.
“The people’s representatives’ strike will give more strength to secular institution. Before this, Opposition MLAs had held strike 17 times in front of the Assembly house. On all those times, the chief minister or the speaker intervened to end the strike but this time, it shows the arrogance of the chief minister,” he said.
