Congress found it difficult to decide on Chief Ministers even after ensuring majority in the Assembly elections in three states. This might not be something new for the party but it’s definitely irritating for the people. Many see this result as a victory of youth in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. So there was an obvious expectation from public to see Jyotiraditya Scindia in Madhya Pradesh and Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan as Chief Ministers. As party leadership was under pressure, Ashok Gehlot and Kamal Nath became the chosen ones. There were street fights and protests in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. As per reports, AICC President Rahul Gandhi had to intervene to find a common ground between the seniors and youth. But a riot is imminent at any time, considering history of Congress. Kamal Nath will take his oath and become the CM of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. When Kamal Nath becomes the CM of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot will be his deputy. Persuasions have made Jyotiraditya Scindia settle for the deputy CM role.

As Congress rose to strength in two states, responsibilities also increased. Promise made to farmers is the most important of all. Waiving of loans might turn out to be a burden for the state’s finances. With Loksabha election in horizon, party needs to be extra careful with their choices. Even the Chief Minister chair isn’t guaranteed; everything depends on performance of the legislators.

Kamal Nath government put an end to a 15 year BJP rule in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Even the popularity of Shivaraj Singh didn’t work out for BJP. Just eight months after taking over as the state’s Congress President, Kamal Nath made it to the CM chair. It won’t be a ‘herculian’ task for him to shine as the Chief of the government. His vast experience will definitely come in handy. In Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot have had previous experiences as minister. He played a key role in the success of Congress in this election.

The delay in choosing leaders of three states have led to people criticizing Congress. Now the party have to make it up with their performance in governance of these states. And they have to make a statement before the upcoming public election. Parties who haven’t kept their promises have suffered before, that’s democracy. Even though fulfilling promise takes time, they have to at least take steps to implement some of them urgently. A rule without corruption would be the perfect response to this massive responsibility. There shouldn’t be any place for the greedy politicians. Also the confusion and tension in choosing Chief Ministers shouldn’t repeat in forming a government. Voters who made this government can very well turn against them if they don’t perform.
