THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ten year old Irfan passed away on Monday, who was a 'living martyr' after he met with an accident in Karikkakom seven years ago. Irfan was severely injured on his head and he had lost his memory and was also not able to move. He passed away in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
The school van in which Irfan and friends were travelling fell into Parvathi Puthanar on 2011 February 17. Seven people including six childrean and an ayah had lost their lives in the accident. The van had lost its control after hitting a stone. Rescue operation got delayed as Parvathy Puthanar was filled with algal bloom. Irfan was only child of Shajahan and Sajini and he met with the accident while he was just three years old. He was in ventillator for several months following the accident and later he was shifted to Vellur for expert treatment. However, he did not recover completely.
