KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has once again barred the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from conducting rath yatras in West Bengal. The division bench has quashed the single bench order that allowed the BJP to carry out rath yatras in West Bengal. The two-judge bench order came after hearing an appeal moved by the state government, challenging the high court's Thursday order passed by a single member bench.
The High Court earlier allowed BJP to conduct three rath yatras in the state.
The state government had denied permission to the BJP for holding these yatras arguing that BJP's rath yatra is likely to disturb communal harmony in the state.
Challenging the single-member bench's order, the West Bengal Advocate General Kishore Dutta moved a petition before a division bench of Chief Justice Debasish Kargupta and Justice Shampa Sarkar on Friday morning.
BJP had earlier planned to conduct rath yatras 42 Loksabha constituencies of West Bengal in three phases under the leadership of BJP President Amit Shah.
