CHENNAI: A group of 40 women under women’s organization Manithi will leave for Sabarimala on Saturday. Apart from one, rest are under 50 years of age. “We are devotees, not activists. We have observed vrat. We have heard of the protests in Sabarimala. I hope we can visit the shrine and perform darshan despite all problems”, said Selvi, leader of Manithi.
The police have increased security in Sabarimala and premises in anticipation of women visit. State Intelligence department have warned the police about chances of conflict and protest in the area. The details regarding the arrival of Manithi members haven’t been made public. The group will consist of 12 women from Chennai, 2 from Madurai, 5 each from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha and 25 from Kerala.
As per reports, more activists from Hindu organizations will be deployed at Sabarimala premises to block their entry.
