THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy has said the government decided to include religious minorities in Women’s Wall as the government was sure of the failure of that programme.
“This is also an open acceptance of the fact the government had no plans to include them in the Women’s wall.
The stand of the government had to be changed many times due to the confusion of the chief minister, government and the CPM, who were being isolated in the name of communal wall.
The last claim of the government is that the government fund will not be utilised for Women’s wall. This comes after the government filed an affidavit in the high court that Rs 50 crore from the government fund for women and child welfare will be used for the Women’s wall as it is a government programme. This was totally against the chief minister’s declaration in the high court that the government funds won’t be used.
The government made a U-turn after there was strong opposition to the government’s decision to use public funds and K C Joseph gave a notice to the Speaker against the chief minister for breach of rights,” he said.
Ommen Chandy added that everyone knows that NSS’ opposition to Women’s wall is part of its declared policy.
