KOCHI: Former MLA and CPM leader Simon Britto (64), who passed away on Monday will be cremated tomorrow. Cremation will take place at Pachalam Crematorium in Kochi. The body will be kept at his residence in Vaduthala from 9 am to 11 am on Wednesday and from 11 to 3 pm, will be kept at the Town Hall in Ernakulam.

He leaves behind his wife Seena Bhaskar, SFI activist and journalist and only daughter Nilavu. His siblings are Mercy, Julie, Reksy, Christy and Franci. He was staying at ‘Kayam’ in Vaduthala. As part of writing, he was at Thrissur PWD Rest House from December 25. Though he was taken to a private hospital in Thrissur following chest pain and breathing, his life could not be saved. He represented the Anglo Indians in the assembly during 2006-2011. His life was on wheel chair after he was stabbed on his backbone in 1983.

Britto was born to Nichlos Rodriguez and Irin Rdriguez on 27 May 1954, in Pongikkara, Ernakulam. Britto was an active member of Students' Federation of India (SFI), student wing of the CPI (M), he was a former student of St. Albert's College, Ernakulam, Government Law College, Ernakulam, Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, Lalit Narayan Mithila University. In 1983, he became the state vice president of SFI and in a violent clash between student unions, he got his lower body paralyzed. Even after the attack, Britto was active in mainstream politics and continued to be in office till 1988.
