THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The water authority is facing huge financial crisis after the central government imposed certain controls on the grant provided to the authority. During 2017-18 financial year, the water authority had received Rs 313 crore as revenue income, central grant and non-plan fund from the state government. Only Rs 70 crore was received as fund.
There are 8843 permanent employees and 4000 temporary employees in the water authority.
Yearly, the authority has to spend Rs 462 crore as salary and Rs 208 crore as pension. There is a total cost of Rs 1270 crore for office activities, salary, joint pension, provident fund and other benefit. The authority has to pay Rs 1250 crore to the electricity board as well.
