THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police are going through a difficult phase to bring the situation under control after protests broke out across the state. State police chief has given strict instructions to district chiefs to suppress conflicts at the earliest. Strike force and Rapid Action Force will be deployed to subdue protests. Police force will be on high alert for the next three days.
Around 10,000 members of police force are deployed in Pathanamthitta and premises. There is a shortage of reserve policemen in police camps. In most districts, protestors are having a go at police officials. Police station and vehicles were attacked. Around 70 policemen got injured.
The spread of attacks to rural area have become a headache for the police. This is the first time since the Koothuparamba firing in 1994 that the police force is dealing with a conflict of such magnitude. The force had to suffer a lot to suppress conflicts back then.
In light of intelligence warning that party offices might be attacked, police are stationed at such places. Security detail of ministers and other top officials have been increased.
The Intelligence have advised the police to stay at high alert as protests will increase in the coming days. More than five lakh pilgrims are expected to visit Sabarimala for Makaravilakku darshan. Police can’t afford to leave any loop holes as it might end up in a disaster.
