THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devaswom board on Friday will seek the explanation of Sabarimala thantri for closing the doors of Sreekovil for performing purification rites after two young women entered Sabarimala.
The notice will be issued by Devaswom board Commissioner. A special meeting of Devaswom board will be held on Friday to discuss on the thantri’s controversial decision and further course of action.
The board’s initial assessment is that there was serious lapse from the part of thantri Kandarau Rajeevaru. As per Board guidelines, the thantri cannot take his own decision to close the temple. The women had arrived at the temple abiding by the Supreme court order.
The board believes that performing the purification rites in that case was breach of Supreme Court order. If the Supreme Court asks for explanation, the board will have to answer. The board is also examining the legal aspects in this regard.
Devaswom Board Commissioner N Vasu said that the thantri cannot take unilateral decision on closing the temple. As per Devaswom board manual, action can be taken against the thantri.
Further action will be taken after getting reply to Devaswom Board Manual.
