THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Police Chief Loknath Behera has informed district Police Chiefs of Palakkad, Kozhikkode and Kollam, his discontent in the lack of cautionary action despite having an Intelligence report citing possibility of widespread conflicts after entry of women at Sabarimala. Meeting of police officials evaluated that raids and precautionary arrests were done at a late stage. Behera has also asked for the details of actions taken on Intelligence report within three days. Strict orders have been given to arrest all attackers within three days.

Intelligence warning contained the list of possible conflict areas and assailants. The DGP had informed district police chiefs to make precautionary arrests from the list. Chief Secretary had given direction to Collectors to give permission for this as soon as possible. Some police chiefs were not present at places of conflict in some districts. In most places, the police had the role of spectators. If the police force was deployed across the state effectively, protest could have been under control, evaluates the police leadership. The police couldn’t do much in many places as they were outnumbered. They could only use tear gas and water cannon in such places.

Aggressors will be identified from camera footages. A photo album of such people will be created and handed over to Special Branch. This will be shared will all police officers. A database of attackers will be created at every district. They will be under constant surveillance. Special groups will be formed to investigate and arrest attackers.

Police failed to give protection for shops. Shops were made to close in the presence of police men. The force also failed to give protection for political party offices in several districts, condemned the DGP.

Fake campaigns on social media should be taken seriously. Communal hate campaigning is in full swing. Cyber Police and Cyberdome will collect details of people involving in such activities. This will be shared with respective district police force. The DGP has directed officers to make arrests of such offenders fast.
