sabarimala-tantri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bindu and Kanakadurga, the women who made history at Sabarimala by becoming the first two to step foot on the holy hills after SC verdict, have said that they would move legally against the chief priest (tantri) for performing purification rituals after their entry. They made their stand public in an interview to a channel.

“Purification ritual is a discriminating act against dalits and women. It was done because I am a dalit. When Sri Lankan woman Sasikala performed darshan at Sabarimala no purification rites were performed. We will visit Sabarimala again”, said Bindu Ammini.

Tantri performed purification rites after the entry of women at Sabarimala which faced major backlash from ministers. The Travancore Devaswon Board have asked for an explanation from the tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru. However, SC didn’t consider contempt of court suits against the tantri on Friday.
