police-arranged-marriage

KANNUR: Panoor is a place known for political conflicts that get bloody most of the time. Parents don’t want their daughters to marry a groom from Panoor. If you ask a 30 year old unmarried youngster from Panoor about his marriage, the reply would be a smile filled with sorrow. They have prepared their mind to live out their life as bachelors.

However, Panoor police is determined not to leave the youth of their place like this. This mentality should be changed. First step is to prepare a list of bachelors above 30. A meeting to discuss this was held last month. A survey will be conducted with the help of National Service Scheme volunteers from schools under the dominion of Panoor police station.

Panoor police have had conducted free PSC coaching classes for the youth of the place. Majority of them were aged 30 or above. They shared their hardships with the police.

NSS volunteers will conduct survey in about 9000 houses in the Panoor circle province. The police assumes that around 30 percent youngsters here of marriageable age are unmarried. Although some married brides from Karnataka, most of them are chronic bachelors, says the police.

There was a time when even women in Panoor found it difficult to get a groom. Grooms hesitated to marry girls from the land of goons. Some social activists volunteered to get rid of that bad name. But the male counterpart of the place is still suffering from this.

Meanwhile, there are hopeful signs about the political situation of Panoor. In the last hartal, when whole of Kannur was a stage for conflicts, Panoor was peaceful. CPM and BJP activists are living in harmony. The interference of police in social life of people are showing results.
