THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: National Strike entered the second day on Wednesday with protests mainly focussed on railway tracks. Though leaders had said that they would only be picketing railway stations and not blocking trains, the assurance proved false.
When the protesters blocked trains in Thiruvananthapuram, police arrested them and shifted them to police station. Due to protests at several places, trains are running late.
Most of the shops remained close. KSRTC buses were not plying roads but compared with yesterday, more private vehicles are seen on the roads.
The two-day national strike is being held against Centre’s labour policies. The protesters will take out a march to Parliament today (Wednesday), demanding that Centre government change its labour policies.
The march will begin at 11 am from Delhi Mandi House and head towards Parliament Street. All trade unions except BMS have taken part in the strike. The strike which began at Tuesday 12 am was complete in Bengal, Odisha and Assam.
At several places in North India, railway transport was disrupted. The strike also has affected Industrial and Agricultural sectors.
