THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP is planning to kick off Lok Sabha election campaign with the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate Kollam bypass on January 15.

Decades-long dream of Kollam people will become a reality on that day as the bypass will be officially inaugurated by the prime minister. State chief secretary Tom Jose has received a communique from SPGD to put in place the security arrangements for the prime minister.

The prime minister will be addressing a BJP rally at Kollam Peeranki maidan on the day. It will be a rally of Kollam, Mavelikkara, and Alappuzha Parliament constituency workers. The bypass inauguration will be at 5:30 pm and the prime minister will address the rally at 4 pm.

The prime minister is expected to delve on Sabarimala issue during his speech and he is also expected to make some decisive political announcements then, according to BJP party sources.

The prime minister will also address Yuva Morcha State conference in Thrissur on January 27.

Meanwhile, the Public works department has given direction to speed up the remaining works of Kollam bypass after it was intimated about the prime minister’s visit.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)’s attempt is to complete all works except electrical works by January 15. The NHAI and state government are jointly building the Kollam bypass road.
