KANNUR: Four months have passed since honey trap culprit had gone missing from police custody. Rubais(22), a Kurumathoor native, was caught by Taliparamb police for using women to honey trap rich people. However, he managed to escape police custody from Kozhikkode Medical College. After that, there was no information about his whereabouts. Now the police have formed a special squad to tackle the culprit.

Rubais and six other were caught by police in August last year. Rubais was caught for scooter theft. Police, while inspecting, came across some secret codes in his phone. This led to his ‘honey trap’ connection.

Musthafa (45) from Vellarampara, Chuzhali native Irshad (20), Chengalayi native Amaldev (20) and a woman from Kasaragod were among the people arrested alongside Rubais.

Rubais was entered into Kozhikkode Medical College after he informed the police that he is a blood cancer patient. Later he managed to escape police custody from the hospital. He was identified as a key culprit behind honey trap incidents. His escape came at a time when the investigation team was about to interrogate him.

Video footage to honey trap victims were shot at a rented room in Chembathotty. Mustafa was the one who arranged the woman. Rubais and Amaldev were his classmates. Rubais lead a luxurious lifestyle with the money he made from honey trap deals.

Rubais was a culprit in another con case in Karnataka. The police there reached Kerala to interrogate him after the news spread about Rubais’ arrest. Karnataka police had completed all procedures to take him into custody. It was at this juncture when Rubais went missing. He is an offender in several criminal cases.

The police calculates that it’s unlikely that Rubais’ managed to leave the country. Currently, investigations are focused around Karnataka.
