KOCHI: North Indian Lobby is making new attempts to commit ATM-Online fraudulent activities while Kerala police is trying to stop such activities. The new move is focused on True Caller app. They are obtaining names of people using the numbers they have and asking them to deposit money to their ATM account in order to avoid blocking the card.

Kochi city police have obtained information about such activities based in Kolkata. The calls are made by trained women in a call-centre style. Earlier, the numbers were collected using a database.

The calls are being made instructing customers to replace their ATM cards using cards that have chips. EMV chips are placed close to the top of left edge of a credit or debit card, and look similar to the chip on a SIM card. The EMV chips-based cards will replace the older magstripe cards, which only have a magnetic stripe at the back, as a more secure means of digital transaction. By RBI's order, the magstripe cards have to be replaced with EMV chip-based cards by the end of this year, irrespective of the former's validity. The magstripe cards are easier preys to banking frauds like skimming, which the EMV cards can keep at bay.
