THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to adopt a mom who had given the consent to donate the organs of her son Amal Raj. His organs were donated to four people.
Vijayasree (50) had lost her husband and only son in an accident. The presence of mind of the woman who took the decision amidst the unthinkable tragedy has earned admiration from all quarters.
“The state unit of the IMA has decided to adopt this mother as a token of gratitude,” said Dr N Sulphi, state secretary of IMA.
All the healthcare needs of Vijayasree will be taken care of by the doctors of the IMA. “Through this the IMA is supporting the campaign to promote organ donation,” said Sulphi.
Amal and his father Rajan Pillai met with an accident at Bharanikkavu in Kollam and the latter was killed on the spot. Amal was admitted to a private hospital and suffered brain death on Saturday. Rajan Pillai was on his return to Kerala after retiring from Sharjah Police.
Amal Raj, Vijayasree’s son, gave new lives to four persons when his liver, kidneys and cornea were donated. Amal was a second year BCom student of St Cyrils College at Enathu.
