MALAPPURAM: Namajapam protest was held in front of Manjeri Medical College, where Kanaka Durga, one of the two young women who entered Sabarimala temple, was admitted after being allegedly beaten up by her in-laws on Tuesday.
Kanaka Durga and one Bindhu Ammini had covertly entered Sabarimala temple recently. After making the controversial darshan that set off a series violent strikes and hartal in the State, the two women had gone into hiding.
It was today (Tuesday) morning that she reached the Perunthalmanna house. As soon as he reached the house, it was Kanaka Durga’s mother-in-law who first thrashed her, according to Kanaka Durga.
Kanaka Durga was admitted to Perintalmanna Taluk hospital after this. Hours ahead of Kanaka Durga’s ‘homecoming’, the police had arranged security around her house. It was police who took her to hospital.
Kanaka Durga has not filed any complaint against her in-laws. Meanwhile, Kanaka Durga’s husband Krishnanunni came out with the allegation that she had pushed down his mother during the quarrel.
Krishnanunni’s mother Sumathi was also admitted in Perintalmanna Taluk hospital. But Kanaka Durga said that she had not assaulted any one.
Armed with Supreme Court order Kanaka Durga and Bindu climbed Sabarimala unnoticed on January 2. Kanaka Durga had left her home, saying that she was going to Thiruvananthapuram. But on November 24, she along with Koilandi native Bindu tried for Sabarimala darshan on November 24.
They had to climb down the holy shrine following protests and later they secretly entered Sabarimala temple on January 2.
Kanaka Durga’s family members had opposed her Sabarimala visit.
