KOCHI: In a major setback for LDF government, the High Court has annulled election victory of Karat Razak MLA in Koduvally assembly. His victory was annulled following the allegation that he has made personal attacks against the candidate of the opposition. Karat Razak is an independent supporting the Left Democratic Front. However, the court has deniedthe demand to declare UDF candidate M A Razak of IUML as the winner. Meantime, IUML accepted the verdict and said that they expected this.

The court has accepted Karat Razak’s plea seeking to stay the verdict for 30 days.

Two voters of the assembly had lodged a complaint alleging that Karat Razak had spread a video saying that M A Razak took Rs 10,000 from a government fund without authorization while he was panchayat president. However, Karat Razak’s advocate argued that he has not spread such a video. However, petitioners submitted visual proofs that reveal Karat Razak spreading such false information using his campaign vehicle. The court annulled the victory following this. Court also pointed that the incident should be viewed as corruption.
