THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: News have been circulating that top actors of the Malayalam film industry are all set to contest polls. It was heard that Mohanlal and Mammootty will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls but both had rubbished the rumours. In Mohanlal’s case, the rumour began after the actor called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The actor’s various blog posts after meeting Modi led to the assumption that the actor will contest from Thiruvananthapuram constituency in a BJP ticket.

In case of Mammootty, it was heard that the LDF would field him in Ernakulam. Mammootty, the chairman of the party's channel has a good rapport with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. However, both the stars have come forward with an explanation rubbishing the rumours. Mammootty and Mohanlal made it clear that they are not in the fray. We have never thought about it. We have enough films and are quite busy right now. When some from the film fraternity contested polls, actors had campaigned for them. The two had decided not to campaign for anyone this time.
