alappuzha-bypass

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Alappuzha bypass will be completed with the construction of two more railway flyovers. Three months is more than enough to complete this. But this is hindered by railway’s non-cooperation. For finding a solution to this, public works department principal secretary Kamala Vardhana Rao will travel to Delhi on Monday.

Out of 6.8 kilometers between Kalarcode and Kommady, 3.2 kilometers is through Alappuzha beachside. This is an eleven meter high elevated path. The said railway flyovers are at Malikamukku and Kuthirapanthi.

Hurdles

Next step is to sign an agreement letter between Road Transport Department and Railway Board.

Contractor should pay up Rs 7.13 crores to railway board in maintenance charges. However there is no clarity regarding this. According to a clause, this charge need not be paid for government works.

So far there is no step taken towards clearing this hurdle.

According to Minister G. Sudhakaran, the government should pay up this amount and proceed with the project. Public works secretary’s trip to Delhi is on the minister’s direction.
