After a season filled with events Sabarimala temple will close today. This is the first time that this holy place turned into a place of conflict. State witnessed never before seen protests after SC verdict the allowed women of menstrual age to enter Sabarimala. Problems haven’t yet settled down. Some women managed to perform ‘darshan’ at Sabarimala with police escort. It’s better not to talk about the hardships they have to face. Now these women can’t even get out in the public as even their life might be in danger.
Sabarimala controversies have a new twist now after glaring mistakes were found in the affidavit submitted by state government at the SC stating entry of 51 women. It listed out the names and details of 51 people. It is not clear whether the affidavit was submitted on the court’s demand. This was submitted when the SC was considering the prayer of two women who visited the shrine. Maybe it’s a move to prove to the court that the verdict was implemented. However it can be understood that the related officers made serious slipups in ensuring the validity of the list. It has been confirmed that two ‘women’ who is said to have visited the shrine are actually men. Devaswom Board authority says that they don’t know anything about this and the list is from virtual queue system. They blame everything on the police. Police in turn blames the developers who made the software. They also says the details on the list were collected at the time of registration. Anyway this has brought shame and headache for the state government. A document that is being submitted at the court should be verified. There won’t be much difficult with the current facilities. Men were ‘transformed’ to women if their name somehow sounds feminine. Also there were mistake in ages too. These are absurdity of the highest order. People who were trying to hit back at the government will find this as a great opportunity.
SC earlier told that they were consider review petitions against Sabarimala verdict on January 22. However it is now postponed due to the absence of Indu Malhotra who was part of five member bench who delivered verdict. There is no other way but to wait patiently. We can hope that Sabarimala can return to normality as the shrine shuts today.
