THIRUVALLA: Two agriculture laborers died after being engaged in spraying pesticides at wheat field. Sanal Kumar (42) from Peringara Alamthuruthy Kazhuppil colony and Mathayi Esow (68) from Mankulam are the deceased. Three others people, Prabhakaran (52), Sunil (28) and Unnikrishnan (45), who were with the deceased have been hospitalized after their health deteriorated.
According to primary evaluations, pesticide spraying over a prolonged period might have been the cause of death. They used a pesticide labeled ‘Virat’. Sanal Kumar and Mathayi Esow were taken to Changanasseri taluk hospital where they breathed their last.
Thiruvalla police CI Santhosh Kumar has said that a case has been registered for unnatural death. Traces of pesticide was found in internal organs. Shop which sold the said pesticide has been shut down by a team lead by district collector P.B. Noohin.

Human Rights Commission member K. Mohankumar has ordered for an investigation. It’s a suo moto case registered on basis of news from media outlets. Pathanamthitta district collector, Agricultural officer and DySP should submit a report on the incident within a month. Case will be considered on February 22.
