sabarimala-controversy

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: State government has directed the police to clear mistakes in the controversial list of women in menstrual age that visited Sabarimala. Details of women who booked darshan through virtual queue will re-checked. ADGP Anil Kanth who is in charge of Sabarimala will check this. 7,564 women of menstrual age had booked in the virtual queue. New list will be made.

The list was compiled with details of people who registered through a software developed by a company in Technopark. While the court was considering the case of Bindu and Kanakadurga, state attorney informed SC that there is a list of 51 women who entered Sabarimala. However, the court said that it’s not needed. So the government can claim that technically this document was not filed. But according to rules, there shouldn’t be any mistakes in documents that are being submitted in SC and High Courts. If a mistake is found, action can be taken against the officer who filed this, which can even result in jail time. This has forced the government to modify the list.

Chief secretary, home secretary and law secretary discussed on this and reached a conclusion that this mistake could effect when the court considers review petitions against women entry verdict. The details regarding women’s entry to Sabarimala was not submitted to the law department nor advice were sought. Out of 16.2 lakhs people that registered in the virtual queue, 8.6 lakhs people trekked Sabarimala. Police leadership was on a stand that it’s difficult to check the details of every person on the list.

In the list of 51 women, 3 were confirmed to be men. Devashikhamani, Shankar and Param Jyothi are those people.
