KOCHI: There is a big turning point on the sexual abuse complaint of an actress against a noted producer of the Malayalam film industry. The complaint had stated that she was abused by the producer after promising her a role in the film. A private channel had exposed some phone dialogues suspecting a black mailing team behind the actress’ complaint. The dialogues of the actress demanding an amount of Rs six crore to avoid the case were shown by the channel. The report said the producer, accused in the case, was granted bail on the basis of these dialogues. It is also heard that the police is conducting a probe on the producer’s complaint stating that the actress is blackmailing her.

Though a complaint was obtained earlier, the police revealed this to the media only after a few weeks. Kochi North circle inspector K J Peter said that it was not disclosed in order to find the truth behind it. The probe on the case is progressing by a team led by North circle inspector. The investigating official was not ready to reveal the name of the producer. The inspector said that if the complaint is true, further steps will be taken and action cannot be taken just on the complaint. The complaint mentioned that the incident happened in 2017. AMMA, artistes’ organisation general secretary Edavela Babu said the actress has not approached them with the complaint. Even Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has not responded on the issue.
