ALAPPUZHA: 96-year old Karthyanai Amma, who cleared the literacy exam recently, has been selected as the goodwill ambassador of Commonwealth learning. She has become the face of distance education in Kerala. Commonwealth learning vice president Balasubrahmaniam had met Karthyayani Amma earlier and she was chosen as the goodwill ambassador following this. Commonwealth Learning aims at a widespread campaign for distance education. They are also aiming to publish the details of many inspiring personalities like Karthyayani Amma in their journal. Meanwhile, Karthyayani Amma is preparing for fourth standard examination.
Karthiyayani Amma, native of Alappuzha, took the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority’s Aksharalaksham literacy examination at Government Lower Primary School, Kanichanelloor, Cheppad. Aksharalaksham. She had scored 98 marks, out of 100 in her first formal examination.
