reservation-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finally the government has decided to implement reservation in three streams of the Kerala Administrative Service. The government’s act to ensure reservation in one stream earlier and avoiding second and third streams led to protests by dalit organisations against the government. However the government did not change their sand. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sought legal opinion from the attorney general and the legal advice obtained was that no reservation was needed.

However, many including CPM Rajya Sabha member K Somaprasad came to the fore for reservation. He continuously budged pressure on the chief minister and minister of scheduled castes. The government at first was not ready to compromise but later decided to change their stand. Kodikkunil Suresh, Congress leader and MP had staged a satyagraha in front of the secretariat.

The government changed their stand after congress staged march to chief minister’s residence and dalit organisations intensified their agitations. Dalit organisations had taken a favourable stand on Sabarimala issue and had showed their participation in the women wall.
